bamboo wednesday! part 13! thursday style!

you know it's bad when i can't even do my wednesday post on wednesday. Martini mentioned that it would be an awesome idea to compare the first week of bamboo wednesday with the latest bamboo wednesday, and i tend to agree with him. when you look at the two next to each other, you can really see the progress.

Here's yesterday's photo:

and the first photo, from September 26, 2007:

sorry I couldn't actually get the photos to be side-by-side. blogger's a little finicky about how things can be displayed and uploaded. judging by the two photos, i'd guess there's easily been 4-5 cm of growth since late september (1.5 two 2 inches for y'all americans). every day it amazes me a little bit more how most of the people in my office manage to kill these low-maintenance plants off in droves. what's my secret? keep the water full. i just fill the glass container to the top with water every day whether it needs it or not.

the other day i was at wal-mart. now, i've never been a pink floyd fan, i'd even go so far as to say my appreciation of their music falls somewhere below my appreciation for Anne Murray and Celine Dion, but they made me laugh. how? by the Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon slippers you can buy at your local wal-mart for $6.99

so now you can be tacky and show your love for the world's most over-rated band just by putting your slippers on in the morning. i didn't buy them, but i would buy pink floyd toilet paper if they had it.

bamboo wednesday! part 12!

two o'clock. still just a potato.

there's one other person in my office who has learned the secret of the bamboo, although it seems she learned it long before i did. her's is somewhere in the area of two feet tall. she must be way past week 12.

My Lord, you look just like the piss-boy!

we had the deployment of our product at job number one today. i've been certain for quite some time that something (that wasn't my stuff) was going to fuck up at some point during the night, but i was the only one with enough common sense to try to figure it all out.

things started off as usual at the same time. i got up at 2 to start my testing, but oh - there's delays. testing can't start until 3.

no biggie i thinks, i'll just scan the job market for a while.

3 o'clock rolls around, and then so does 3:30. i message one of the product testers only to find things are running behind, but should be ready shortly.

4 o'clock rolls on by. at this point, i've started watching History of the World: Part 1. as 4:30 approaches, i message the product tester again. i'm getting a little concerned at this point because our maintenance window is suppsed to END at 5am. being that we're past 4:30 am and the application's not even ready, let alone tested, i'm beginning to get concerned.

"we've informed the boss, he says give it an hour then we roll back"

so another hour rolls past, and we're pushing 6am by this point. "oh, the changes are almost done mmat, should just be a few more mins."

at five minutes after six, i get the green light to start testing my reports.

oh, did i mention that i started job number two at 10 am? oh yeah, that.

so i'm running off of two hours sleep, a bowl of Count Chocula and the most mediocre office coffee in the whole wide world. i can't wait to hear what the boss has to say about this on monday. maybe i should be *cough cough* sick.

bamboo wednesday part 11! and the end of a condo (didn't i say that already?)!

as my bamboo continues to thrive, i'm finding it more and more difficult to figure out how so many office people can manage to kill these low maintenance plants.

friday november 30th marked the last official day in the old condo. unofficially i moved out quite some time ago, but the last day of the lease was november 30. i had spoken with my douchebag landlord the day before to make arrangements to hand over the keys, and she mentioned that she needed to do an exit inspection.
i thought to myself "you didn't do an exit inspection when the last people moved out, why are you doing one now?" - but then i decided not to care. she explained that she would call me first thing in the morning to arrange a time, and i mentioned that my time was very limited so she had better make sure to call.
the 30th came and went without a call from cuntzilla.
as did december 1st. and 2nd. and 3rd.
i decided she wasn't going to call (surprise surprise) so i dropped the keys in the mail box, called the building management people and asked them to deactivate my card, and then left a voicemail for my douchebag now former landlord to tell her that i don't have time to wait around for her call, i left the keys in the mail box and she can deal with the place as is.
i'm almost going to miss writing posts about my douchebag landlord. it's the end of an era, but an era i can very easily live without.
job number one has been insanely busy lately. heck, so busy that i didn't get my bamboo wednesday post out until it was almost over. we're nearing the end of a product release cycle, so everyone's getting retarded with their requirements and nobody's giving anyone enough time to fix all their bugs, and there's nothing more annoying than stressed out software developers and testers. thank goodness for the ol' iPod.
